GFN Foods
previews new Multi Grain Bread Mix product at Natural Products
Expo East
Baltimore, MD -
A new gluten-free bread is coming. With substantial amounts
of fiber and whole grain goodness, not to mention a moist texture
that makes an excellent sandwich.
GFN Foods, LLC previewed
such a bread at the Natural Products Expo East show here in
Baltimore.
"With freshness
lasting about three days without preservatives, whole grain
ingredients, plenty of fiber and a mild and pleasant taste,
we think that this bread offers a lot to the celiac community",
said Paul Graven as he worked in the Gluten-Free Naturals trade
show booth.
The bread is soft
and a little spongy, beige in color and it doesn't need toasting
to hold together. "We think it would compare to a multi-grain
bread or whole wheat type of bread, with the main difference
of this one being safe for those with a gluten intolerance",
said Graven.
"With the ability
to make the bread in a loaf pan or bread machine, and the possibility
of customizing the bread with nuts, raisins or whatever someone
enjoys, we think that this product will provide some nice flexibility
for people wanting to add more bread to their gluten-free diet," he
added. "This is a product that has been under development
literally for years. Untold test versions were thrown out.
We think this bread represents the effort, and we got fantastic
feedback here at the Expo."
GFN Foods plans
on releasing mixes to make other kinds of breads for different
purposes and palates, but there were no definite announcements
at this time.
The company plans
on launching the mix in January. Pricing was undetermined at
this time.

GFN Foods,
LLC Responds to the Proposed Rule by the FDA, Including the
Definition of "Gluten-Free"
Cranford, NJ - The
FDA recently released a proposed rule that considers the standard
and definition of "Gluten-Free" in this document: www.fda.gov/OHRMS/DOCKETS/98fr/05n-0279-npr0001.pdf (requires Adobe
Acrobat Reader). While the document outlines some options
for gluten-free labeling, the proposed standard of 20 parts
per million of gluten or lower will be considered "gluten-free".
GFN Foods welcomes
this proposed standard. "It will go a long way in improving
the quality of gluten-free products for everyone" said
Paul Graven, Vice President of the company. "For our company
and products, the proposed standard will not affect our manufacturing
process and the strict quality control procedures that we have
in place, since we perform a lab test for every batch of product.
We have been and will always continue to be well below the
20 parts per million standard."
